Faisal I served as Emir of Syria from October 1918 until being crowned king by the Syrian Parliament on March 8, 1920. He was toppled by the invading French Army on July 24, 1920 and exiled to Europe, where the British government rewarded him with a throne in Baghdad. He reigned as King of Iraq from August 1921 until his passing in September 1933.
